Health Facility Design and Development: Post Conference Workshops - 30 November 2018

Workshop A

9:00 am - 11:30 am Having a Vigorous Change Management Approach in Place to Ensure a Smooth Transition From the Old to New Clinical Environment

Relocating into a new clinical environment, especially where the transition is on a large-scale, can be a daunting and complicated task. Change management is absolutely fundamental and acts as the ‘glue’ that keeps the business together. Change management activities and mechanisms can help maintain cultural alignment, synergies, operational efficiencies and continuation of workflow which is especially important where the transfer occurs in a live hospital environment.

A change management approach should be identified and established in the initial stages of planning and continue well into the transition. Led by Adrian Pennington, CEO of Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, this interactive workshop offers you the opportunity to discuss among your peers your role as a leader of change and the change management activities and mechanisms you could apply to your own scenario.

This interactive workshop offers you the opportunity to discuss among your peers:

  • Your role as a leader of change
  • The change management activities and mechanisms you could apply to your own scenario
  • How to manage and execute extensive levels of clinical engagement, increase community engagement and
  • Consultation and clinical assessment of the whole health service’s readiness to transition

Workshop B

12:00 pm - 2:30 pm Understanding the Commissioning Challenges You will Face in Your New or Redeveloped Healthcare Facility

Extensive systems commissioning for new hospitals and major redevelopments are an effective means of identifying and addressing operational risks before patients, staff or visitors walk through the doors of a new facility. In this session we aim to answer the most pressing issue: whether patient care and other operational processes are put through the same vigorous testing and training as technical systems.

Led by Claire Gauci, Deputy General Manager of Healthscope, Claire will explore the challenges you will face during the commissioning process, using recent project examples and lessons learnt from developments such as the Gold Coast Private Hospital, to look at reasons for commissioning success and gain an understanding of the complex interdependencies in operationally commissioning a hospital.

This interactive workshop offers you the opportunity to discuss among your peers:

  • Effective workforce planning
  • Use of advanced simulation techniques
  • Programming and planning for parallel commissioning/build processes
  • Effective IT implementation
  • Managing 3rd party and vendor installs
  • Project Governance and resourcing
  • Use of go/no go surveys
